Rounding

We round numbers to estimate or simplify.
Step 1: circle the digit in the place value you are asked to round to.
eg. round to the nearest ten in this case you would circle the 3 in the number 432.7
Step 2: underline the digit one place value to the right of the circled digit, in the above example you would underline the 2.
Step 3: if the underlined digit is 5 or higher the circled digit goes up 1
if the underlined digit is 4 or lower the circled digit stays the same
Step 4: All insignificant digits are changed to zeros they just hold place value
do not include zeros after the decimal unless they are holding place vaule.
eg. 0.0003 these zeros are holding place value
0.3000 these zeros are not holding place value

you try 8964 round to the nearest thousand
29 round to the nearest ten
419.4 round to the nearest one
289.456 round to the nearest hundredth
