Test

Due to the Remembrance day service we will only have a test on Thursday. Be sure to study each night this week.

Term Test

A reminder that we have a quiz on Tuesday, covering adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing decimals. Order of operations will be covered on the test as well.

Lastly, we have a Term Test on Thursday it will cover the entire term's worth of work. Be sure to start studying now, do not wait until the last minute!

Homework Oct. 14

You should all have an email address and a google account. If not do so now.
Check your email for a message from me risfeld@gmail.com, it may be in the spam or garbage.
Open the email and click on the link. Enter your google account user name and password. Your display name needs to be your first name and room number. Click on I accept terms. Now you are an author.

Also page 48-49 in the textbook, questions 4-14.

Finally study for the quiz tomorrow.

We have a unit test tomorrow on the coordinate grid and transformations. Use your practice and homework booklet pages 2-13 to help you study.

Homework October 4th

If you have not completed pages 34 and 35 questions 3-14 in the math links textbook that is your homework. Remember you can use mytextbook.ca or you can use a textbook in room 44.
Math help is available at lunch time.

Homework October 1st

Today's homework is to create a google account and an email account if you already have one that's great. You must be able to remember your password. If you like you can email your password to me for safe keeping. risfeld@gmail.com
Room 42 you also have to get from point A(3, 9) to the origin using a rotation, reflection, and a translation.

Remember to make all the corrections on your test from Thursday, either ask a friend with the correct answers or me to explain your mistakes.

Septemeber 30th Homework

Today's homework is giving direction from point A(3,9) to the origin using a rotation, reflection, and translation. If you are able to get on http://www.mytextbook.ca/ then continue to work on the questions from Friday.

Also there is a quiz tomorrow on number of the day and the coordiante grid. Be sure to study.

Blog Rules

We must remember that our blog is seen around the world and therefore we must represent ourselves and our school with pride.

The shout box is a place where we can ask questions, answer questions, and help each other. In order to do so we must use appropriate language. We must use complete sentences. We do not want to use text language or computer language, no lols.

Only use your fist name and room number. If there are two students with the same first name in the same class they can use the number 1 or 2 after their name based on alphabetical order.

Please represent yourselves and our school with pride and respect.

Movements on a grid

Horizontal movements are described using left and right.

Vertical movements are described using up and down directions.

In all cases a unit of measurement must be used. Centimeters, millimeters, kilometers,... etc.

Default wording is simply units.


eg. four units up and to units left.

Be sure you can describe the movements of shape or point.

Remember all three transformations: translation, reflection, and rotation.

Finish any questions you did not complete from Friday. Pg 15-17 # 3-14 and pg 24-29 # 3-25
I will be checking homework on Wednesday.
Answer questions 10, 11, 12, and 13 of all old pages in your number of the day booklet.

Cubing is multiplying a number by itself 3 times.


A cube has three dimensions ( length, width, depth)












eg. five cubed is 5x5x5







not 3x5 or 5x3

Number of the Day, Written form

Written form is a a number written using words the way we say it.

Remember that and means decimal.

eg.

3286 is standard form.

three thousand two hundred eighty six is written form.

7541.396 standard form

seven thousand five hundred forty one and three hundred ninety six thousandths.

Number of the Day Scribepost

Expanded Form.

Expand- to make bigger. Only the size of the number changes not the value.

Form - another way to write the same number.

eg. 1234 is written in standard form.

1000 + 200 + 30 + 4 is written in expanded form.

9876.543 is standard form.

9000 + 800 + 70 + 6 + 0.5 + 0.04 + 0.003 is expanded form.

Expanded form is writing the true value of each digit.

Number of the Day Scribepost

Finding half of a number.

We need to find two equal pieces.

One half can be represented in several ways: fraction, decimal percent, picture, and words.

Think of an example for each way to represent one half.

The easiest way to find one half is to divide by two. Dividing by two is another way to say get two equal groups or parts.
